VA: Homemaker, Home Health Aide Program (HHA)

This program provides in-home health aides to Veteran’s that qualify, this program also provides in-home and in-patient respite.

VA: Home-based Primary Care (HBPC)

 HBPC Website

The Home-based Primary Care program provides in-home services including primary care provider, dietician, social worker, recreational therapist, and RNs. Regular home visits for Veteran’s unable to attend appointments at the VA due to their medical condition are available.

VA: Medical Foster Home (MFH)

MFH Program Website

A Medical Foster Home (MFH) is an alternate place for Veteran’s no longer safe/able to live alone, placed with a forever-family. (This is self-paid, but HUD-VASH is attempting to assist with partial cost).

The Community Nursing Home program provide long-term placements (paid by the VA) in a VA contracted nursing home for Veteran’s that meet criteria, 70% SC or 60% and deemed unemployable by the VA.

VA: Discharge Appeal Review Board (DARB)

This new appeal board was announced by the U.S. Department of Defense in April of 2021 and represents the final level of administrative review provided by the DoD. The DARB only reviews a case when the veteran has exhausted all other available administrative review options.

This program offers case management services, assistance with appointments, free iPhones, etc. Criteria for this program has been changed, it is no longer required to have served a 24 consecutive month sentence to qualify.

VA: Caregiver Support Program (CSP)

CSP Program Website

The Caregiver Support Program (CSP) pays family members/caretakers (that reside with the Veteran) a monthly tax-free stipend, to assist with keeping the Veteran out of placement, This program also covers respite for the caregiver.

VA: COMPACT Act

Starting January 17, 2023, the VA will provide, pay for, or reimburse the cost of eligible Veterans’ emergent suicide care and treatment at a VA, or non-VA facility- including transportation costs, inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 days, and outpatient care for no more than 90 days, including social work services.
